Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your private driver-guide who will transfer you to your luxury hotel in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax and enjoy the comfort of the hotel as you prepare for the exciting safari ahead.

Day 2: Kigali Memorial Visits and Transfer to Ruhengeri (Volcanoes National Park)

After breakfast, begin your day with visits to the Ntarama and Nyamata Genocide Memorial Sites located in the Bugesera region. These important historical sites provide insight into Rwanda’s past and the country’s journey toward unity, reconciliation, and rebuilding.

Continue back to Kigali for lunch before embarking on a scenic drive northwards to Ruhengeri, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of Rwanda’s famous rolling hills and countryside landscapes.

Upon arrival, check into your luxury lodge located near the Virunga Mountains and relax as you prepare for the upcoming gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, depart for the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing from park officials about gorilla trekking guidelines. You will then begin your adventure into the misty forests of the Virunga Mountains in search of a habituated gorilla family.

The trek takes you through beautiful rainforest landscapes with experienced guides and trackers leading the way. Depending on the location of the gorillas, the hike may take several hours, but the reward is an unforgettable encounter with these magnificent creatures.

Once you find the gorillas, you will spend up to one hour observing them as they interact, feed, and move through their natural habitat. This rare wildlife experience offers a unique connection with one of the world’s most fascinating species.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Experience

After breakfast, head to Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking adventure. These colorful and energetic primates are found within the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains and are known for their playful behavior and active movements.

During the trek, you will have the opportunity to observe habituated golden monkeys as they jump between trees, feed, and interact within their natural environment.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for an authentic Rwandan cultural experience. Enjoy traditional music and dance performances, learn about local customs, explore traditional crafts, and interact with community members. The visit supports local livelihoods and conservation efforts by providing alternative opportunities for former poachers.

You may also participate in optional activities such as learning about banana beer production or basket weaving.

Day 5: Transfer to Gisenyi and Explore Lake Kivu

Continue your journey to Gisenyi, located on the shores of Lake Kivu. After lunch and check-in at your hotel, spend the afternoon exploring this beautiful lakeside town. You may enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Lake Kivu, visit nearby islands, explore local markets, or take a walk through the town’s scenic streets.

Day 6: Lake Kivu Relaxation and Departure
