Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax after your flight or explore the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy a comfortable evening as you prepare for the exciting adventures ahead.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, depart Kigali for Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests. Along the scenic drive, visit the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza and the Ethnographic Museum in Huye to learn about Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage. Continue through Rwanda’s rolling hills and tea plantations before arriving at your lodge near Nyungwe Forest.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk
Start the day with an early breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing. Set off on an exciting chimpanzee trekking adventure through the lush rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzees. Along the way, you may also encounter colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, colorful birds, and unique plant species.
After lunch and a short rest, enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a suspended bridge stretching above the forest canopy that offers spectacular views of the rainforest and excellent opportunities for wildlife and bird viewing.
Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Kivu (Kibuye)
After breakfast, leave Nyungwe Forest and travel to the beautiful lakeside town of Kibuye on the shores of Lake Kivu. The scenic drive passes through picturesque villages, tea estates, and rolling hills.
Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch overlooking the lake. In the afternoon, relax on the lakeshore or take a peaceful boat cruise to explore nearby islands while admiring the stunning scenery.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, depart Lake Kivu and drive north to Volcanoes National Park, home to Rwanda’s endangered mountain gorillas. The journey offers breathtaking views of Rwanda’s famous “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day relaxing while enjoying spectacular views of the Virunga Volcanoes. Prepare for the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the following day.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Following an early breakfast, transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers. You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and begin your trek through the bamboo forests and mountain slopes.
The trek may last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing these magnificent primates in their natural habitat as they feed, groom, and interact with one another.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing or choose an optional visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional Rwandan music, dance, and local customs.

Day 7: Return to Kigali & Departure
After breakfast, check out of your lodge and drive back to Kigali. Depending on your departure schedule, enjoy a brief Kigali city tour or stop at local craft markets to purchase souvenirs before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
