Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional driver-guide, who will brief you about your safari before transferring you to your hotel in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, relax at the hotel or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Rwanda’s clean and vibrant capital.

Day 2: Reconciliation Village Experience & Kigali City Tour

After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to one of Rwanda’s inspiring Reconciliation Villages, where survivors and former perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi now live together in peace. Through guided interactions and personal stories, gain a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s remarkable journey toward unity, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

After lunch, continue with a Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you’ll learn about the country’s history and resilience. If time permits, explore the Kandt House Museum and browse local craft markets for handmade souvenirs, artwork, and traditional Rwandan products.

Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Following breakfast, depart Kigali for Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest tropical rainforests and a biodiversity hotspot. Enjoy a scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills, picturesque villages, and lush countryside.

En route, stop in Huye to visit the Ethnographic Museum, where you’ll discover Rwanda’s cultural heritage, traditional lifestyles, and historical artifacts. After lunch, continue your journey to Nyungwe Forest, arriving in the late afternoon for check-in at your lodge.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking & Nyungwe Canopy Walk

Rise early for breakfast before heading to the Nyungwe Forest National Park headquarters for a briefing by experienced park rangers. Venture into the rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzees while listening to their distinctive calls echo through the forest.

Besides chimpanzees, Nyungwe is home to 13 species of primates, hundreds of bird species, colorful butterflies, and unique plant life, making every trek an exciting wildlife experience.

After returning from the trek and enjoying lunch, experience the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk. Suspended high above the forest floor, this thrilling walkway offers breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy and excellent opportunities to spot monkeys, birds, and other forest wildlife from above.

Day 5: Colobus Monkey Trekking

After breakfast, return to Nyungwe Forest for another remarkable primate adventure. Following a ranger briefing, trek into the rainforest to search for the impressive Angolan colobus monkeys, one of the largest habituated troops in Africa, often numbering more than 200 individuals.

Spend one hour observing these striking black-and-white monkeys as they leap through the treetops, groom one another, and forage for food in their natural habitat. Along the way, your guide will also introduce you to the forest’s rich biodiversity, including birds, butterflies, and other primates.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and enjoy a relaxing afternoon surrounded by the beauty of the rainforest.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, depart Nyungwe Forest and travel north to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda’s premier destination for gorilla trekking. The scenic drive takes you through the country’s spectacular rolling hills, fertile farmlands, and charming rural communities, with several opportunities to stop for photographs along the way.

Upon arrival in Musanze, check in to your lodge and spend the evening relaxing in preparation for the next day’s unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and a briefing by park rangers. You will be assigned a habituated gorilla family and accompanied by experienced guides as you trek through the bamboo forests and volcanic slopes of the Virunga Mountains.

The trek may last between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once located, spend one unforgettable hour observing these magnificent primates as they interact, feed, and care for one another in their natural environment—an experience widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest wildlife encounters.

Day 8: Golden Monkey Trekking & Gorilla Guardians Village

Following breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking adventure. After a briefing, follow your ranger into the bamboo forest to search for these lively and endangered primates, known for their beautiful golden-orange fur and playful behavior.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch before visiting the Gorilla Guardians Village (formerly Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village). Here, you’ll immerse yourself in Rwanda’s rich traditions through cultural performances, traditional dances, local crafts, storytelling, and interactive activities such as becoming a king or queen for a day, learning traditional hunting techniques, and participating in basket weaving.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin the scenic drive back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may stop at local craft markets to purchase souvenirs or enjoy a final glimpse of Rwanda’s beautiful landscapes.

Your driver-guide will transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of an unforgettable primate and cultural adventure in the Land of a Thousand Hills.
