Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – King’s Palace Museum – Nyungwe National Park – Canopy Walk
Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kigali or Kigali International Airport at approximately 7:00 AM. Meet your professional driver-guide before setting off on a scenic drive southwest through Rwanda’s spectacular countryside, passing rolling hills, tea plantations, traditional villages, and beautiful rural landscapes.
Your first stop is the King’s Palace Museum (Royal Palace Museum) in Nyanza, one of Rwanda’s most important cultural and historical attractions. During the guided visit, learn about Rwanda’s former monarchy, royal traditions, cultural heritage, and the lifestyle of the country’s ancient kings. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the beautifully reconstructed traditional royal palace and the famous long-horned Inyambo cattle, which remain an important symbol of Rwanda’s cultural identity.
After the museum visit, continue your journey toward Nyungwe National Park, enjoying breathtaking views of endless tea plantations, forest-covered mountains, and the scenic landscapes that make Rwanda famous as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
Arrive at your lodge around lunchtime, check in, and enjoy a delicious meal before preparing for the afternoon adventure.
Later, head to the Nyungwe Canopy Walkway, one of East Africa’s most exciting forest experiences. Suspended approximately 50 meters (165 feet) above the rainforest floor and stretching over 160 meters, the canopy bridge offers spectacular panoramic views of the ancient forest below. As you walk among the treetops, keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, colorful butterflies, orchids, and numerous bird species that inhabit the forest canopy.
After the canopy walk, return to your lodge where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking – Return to Kigali
Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before transferring to the Nyungwe National Park headquarters for registration and a briefing by experienced park ranger guides.
Following the briefing, begin your chimpanzee trekking adventure through the dense rainforest. Guided by experienced trackers, you’ll follow forest trails while listening for the distinctive calls of wild chimpanzees. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the incredible biodiversity of Nyungwe Forest, including towering ancient trees, medicinal plants, colorful birds, butterflies, and several other primate species such as L’Hoest’s monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.
The trek may take 2 to 5 hours, depending on the location of the chimpanzee community. Once the chimpanzees are located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat as they feed, groom one another, communicate through vocalizations, swing through the trees, and interact within their family groups.
After this incredible wildlife encounter, return to the park headquarters before heading back to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch.
Following lunch, check out and begin the scenic drive back to Kigali. Enjoy one last opportunity to admire Rwanda’s rolling hills, tea plantations, and picturesque countryside as your guide shares more insights into the country’s culture and landscapes.
