Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya – Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be welcomed by your professional safari guide who will brief you about your adventure before beginning the journey to Masai Mara National Reserve.

The drive takes you through Kenya’s beautiful countryside, including the scenic Great Rift Valley viewpoint where you can enjoy panoramic views of one of the world’s most remarkable geological features. Continue through rural landscapes, small towns, and rolling hills before arriving at the famous Masai Mara ecosystem.

After checking into your lodge or luxury tented camp, enjoy lunch and some relaxation before an optional evening game drive. The late afternoon offers excellent opportunities to spot grazing herbivores, including zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and antelopes, as predators begin their evening activities.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay as you prepare for an exciting wildlife experience in one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations.

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, set out for a full-day exploration of Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife destination. The Mara is famous for its incredible concentration of wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and the annual Great Wildebeest Migration, where millions of wildebeests and zebras cross the plains in search of fresh grazing areas.

Your morning game drive provides excellent opportunities to encounter Africa’s famous predators. Lions can often be seen resting after a night of hunting, while cheetahs patrol the open grasslands searching for their next opportunity. With the help of your experienced guide, you may also spot elusive leopards hiding among acacia trees and riverine forests.

The reserve is home to the Big Five: lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos, alongside large herds of giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and antelopes. The diverse ecosystem also supports over 450 bird species, including ostriches, secretary birds, vultures, and the colorful lilac-breasted roller.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness before continuing with an afternoon game drive. You may choose an optional hot air balloon safari, offering a spectacular aerial view of the Mara plains, wildlife herds, and sunrise landscapes.

Day 3: Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari or Maasai Cultural Experience

Today offers a choice between adventure and cultural discovery.

For an unforgettable experience, wake up early for an optional hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara. As the sun rises above the savannah, float silently above the endless plains while observing wildlife moving below. The experience provides incredible photography opportunities and a unique perspective of the Mara ecosystem.

Alternatively, visit a traditional Maasai village to learn about one of Kenya’s most famous indigenous communities. During the visit, discover Maasai traditions, cultural practices, traditional homes, beadwork, music, and their relationship with wildlife conservation.

Later, enjoy another game drive through the reserve, searching for wildlife species that may have been missed during previous excursions. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the lodge, enjoying the surroundings, or taking optional nature activities.

End the day with dinner and an evening of storytelling while surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness.

Day 4: Transfer from Masai Mara to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, depart Masai Mara and begin the journey to Amboseli National Park, located in southern Kenya near the Tanzania border.

Known as the “Land of Giants,” Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The journey passes through Kenya’s rural landscapes, local communities, and changing scenery before arriving at the park.

After lunch and check-in at your lodge, enjoy an afternoon game drive exploring Amboseli’s diverse habitats, including open plains, wetlands, and acacia woodlands.

During the drive, look out for elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and numerous bird species. The park’s shallow wetlands attract many animals, creating excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

As the sun sets behind Mount Kilimanjaro, enjoy spectacular photography moments before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive in Amboseli – Transfer to Lake Naivasha

Begin the day with an early morning game drive in Amboseli when wildlife activity is at its peak. The morning light provides excellent photography opportunities as elephants move across the plains with the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro forming a dramatic backdrop.

Your guide will share insights into the park’s ecosystem, elephant conservation efforts, and the unique relationship between wildlife and local communities.

After the game drive, continue your journey to Lake Naivasha, a beautiful freshwater lake located in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Upon arrival, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and explore the lake’s rich biodiversity.

Optional activities include a boat ride where you can spot hippos, African fish eagles, and other water birds, or a visit to Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can walk among giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.

Day 6: Transfer to Nairobi – Flight to Kigali, Rwanda

After breakfast, drive back to Nairobi where you will catch a flight to Kigali, Rwanda, marking the beginning of the Rwanda section of your safari.

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred toward the Volcanoes National Park region. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short Kigali city tour, visiting important sites such as local markets, cultural centers, or craft shops.

As you travel north toward the volcanic region, enjoy Rwanda’s beautiful scenery of rolling hills, farmland, and lush landscapes.

Arrive at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park, where you will relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for your upcoming gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking Preparation

After breakfast, explore the beautiful surroundings of Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda’s famous destination for mountain gorilla trekking.

The journey takes you through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside, often referred to as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Upon arrival near the park, you will receive a briefing about gorilla trekking guidelines, safety measures, photography rules, and conservation efforts.

You may choose to participate in optional activities such as a nature walk, cultural visit, or exploration of nearby communities.

Spend the evening relaxing at your lodge while preparing for the following day’s unforgettable encounter with mountain gorillas.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today is the highlight of your Rwanda adventure as you embark on a once-in-a-lifetime mountain gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park.

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for registration and briefing by Rwanda Development Board guides. You will then begin your trek through the ancient bamboo forests and mist-covered slopes of the Virunga Mountains.

The trek may take several hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Along the way, enjoy the forest scenery and look out for birds, primates, and other wildlife.

Once you locate the gorilla family, you will spend up to one hour observing these incredible creatures as they feed, play, and interact within their natural habitat. Watching a powerful silverback, caring mothers, and playful young gorillas is a deeply memorable wildlife experience.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Optional afternoon activities may include visiting the Dian Fossey Memorial Site or exploring nearby cultural attractions.

Day 9: Optional Golden Monkey Trekking – Lake Kivu Visit – Departure

On the final day, enjoy an optional golden monkey trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park. These colorful and energetic primates are found within the bamboo forests of the Virunga region and offer another fascinating wildlife encounter.

After the trek, continue to Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes, where you can enjoy beautiful views, relax along the shoreline, or take a short scenic excursion depending on your flight schedule.
